Following the release of their new EP SOOP on June 11, People Taking Pictures are hitting the road for a national Australian tour, bringing their explosive blend of psychedelic rock, hip hop, electronica, jazz fusion and drum & bass to stages across the country.
Fronted by acclaimed MC POW! Negro, known for his work with Superego and Myriad Sun — alongside Luke Parish, best recognised as the guitarist for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, People Taking Pictures brings together two distinct creative forces from WA’s thriving underground music scene. The project has also collaborated with celebrated artists including Mali Jo$e and Cruz Patterson of Koi Child, further expanding its rich and genre-defying sound.
Built around the acclaimed singles “Let This Be,” “These Days,” “Violets” and “Goblins,” SOOP dives headfirst into the chaos of modern life: politics, technology, censorship, identity, and the strange digital haze we all swim through daily. Part satire, part warning, part fever dream, the EP explores what it means to exist inside the endless “bowl of soup” that is social media and the internet.
Following recent support slots for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Morcheeba, the band continues to build momentum with immersive and unpredictable live performances that blur genres into something entirely their own. Known for heavy grooves, warped textures and unpredictable energy, People Taking Pictures move seamlessly from hypnotic psychedelia to breakneck drum & bass, jazz improvisation and hard-hitting hip hop without warning. POW! Negro’s commanding lyricism and sharp social commentary collide with Luke Parish’s swirling guitar work and expansive production, creating a live experience that is both chaotic and deeply intentional.
This national tour celebrates the release of SOOP bringing the full 6 piece band with a live show designed to feel like stepping inside the feed itself: loud, surreal, overstimulating and impossible to look away from.
