Free Wine Tasting with VS&B

Put these two on your radar.

Tessa Brown and Jeremy Schmölzer — Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown (VS&B) — are making some of the most exciting young wines coming out of Beechworth and the King Valley, and we’re very excited to have them at the Ev on Friday 9 October from 4-6pm.

This is a label with serious pedigree behind it. Tessa spent time at Sorrenberg and in Barolo(!). Jeremy’s love affair with Riesling began at Keller in Germany(!!). They’ve taken all of that experience and put it into their own project, planting their vineyard Thorley high up in Stanley with Chardonnay, Shiraz, Riesling and Nebbiolo.

And they’re not exactly taking the easy route.

They’re in the vineyard constantly, working towards organic farming, making their own compost and keeping things pretty stripped back in the winery. Hand-picked fruit, native yeasts, spontaneous malo, no fining and very little added beyond a judicious bit of sulphur.

The result is wine with energy, texture, and pure fruit expression that makes a memorable impression. 

There’s their estate-grown Thorley wines, tiny parcels from Brunnen, old-vine Obstgarten Riesling, and the dangerously drinkable Prêt-à-Blanc and Prêt-à-Rouge. Then there are the little side projects — like Blauburgunder, their juicy, nouveau-ish Pinot — that show just how much fun these two are having.
