Wordcraft Open Mic
💛 Wordcraft is back, and this time it’s a different kind of Sunday sesh.
These are strange times. When we fear the world is divided, we need rooms where people can be heard more than ever. For generations, the open mic has been the doorway into the arts. Wordcraft brings every art form into one room: music, comedy, poetry, storytelling, character work, and whatever is calling you to the stage.
Come celebrate humanity, raw and in process in one of Melbourne's most iconic bandrooms for a more community kind of Sunday sesh. We will art sharing and connecting because these days, that is the goal! Bring your dates, your mates and your big beating heart to see what the stage has in store for us this month.
🎤 Bring it to the mic
Bring the karaoke classic you’ve always wanted to sing.
Bring the new song nobody has heard yet.
Bring the love letter you wrote and never sent.
Bring the newspaper clipping from your family’s past, and the story that goes with it.
Bring your new material, or the character you’re still workshopping.
We believe creative expression is a form of activism against systems of violence.
We deserve more spaces to make what we long to make, and to be seen in the parts of us that make us human. Come and share, or come and witness. Either way, there’s a seat for you.
What is Wordcraft?
Wordcraft is an all- wordcraft arts open mic hosted by national award-winning poet Wren Rapture with a crew of local artists, producers and volunteers. For the last six years, this space has opened the stage to performers at all steps of their process, welcoming first timers, seasoned stage goers and humans figuring it out, one piece of art at a time.
ALL levels of experience welcome.
How to perform:
- Sign up on the door from 3pm
- Performances from 3.30 - 7.30pm
- Each performer gets 5 minutes
- Spots are limited, and we can’t promise everyone will get to the mic
- Performing is completely optional. Witnesses are just as important as performers
