Mac (or “Mac Daddy” to those in the know) cut his teeth at Mount Mary under the late Dr John Middleton before heading abroad in 2002. A stint in London with Southcorp led to winemaking adventures in Austria and Portugal, including time with the legendary Dirk Niepoort — a meeting that helped shape Mac’s obsession with site, purity and elegance.

Back home, Mac set out to map the Yarra township by township, leasing and meticulously managing prime sites to capture the nuances of place. His Yarra wines are finely tuned, site-driven expressions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir — tense, mineral, fragrant and layered. Beyond the classics, his EB (Experimental Batch) range is where things get wild: skin contact whites, left-of-field varieties, even vermouth built on native botanicals. He also ventures north to the Strathbogie Ranges for thrilling, Germanic-feel rieslings that flex across the sugar spectrum.
