Join us on Friday 23 October from 4pm to 6pm for an afternoon tasting with Passage Wines, the Gippsland project of winemaker Kaden Boekhoorn.

Passage Wines is a small, site focused project rooted in the cool volcanic hills of Baw Baw Shire, West Gippsland. Kaden farms one hectare of dry grown vines on red volcanic soils while working with carefully selected vineyard parcels across Gippsland.

His approach starts in the vineyard, with a strong focus on soil health, vine balance and farming with patience. In the cellar, wild fermentation, gentle handling and long élevage allow the wines to develop naturally and express their sites and seasons.

Kaden came to wine after nearly a decade working in specialty coffee across Australia, the US and Japan. His fascination with origins, farming and the way place and process shape flavour eventually led him to Gippsland, where he spent more than five years learning to farm and working alongside some of the region’s most respected producers.

Passage launched with the 2024 vintage, beginning with two wines from dry grown Baw Baw Shire vineyards: a Pinot Gris and a Syrah. The Pinot Gris brings together fruit from Willow Grove and Bull Swamp, while the Syrah comes from old, own rooted vines planted in 1981 at Bull Swamp.

These are wines built around aromatics, texture and structure, rather than overt fruit or heavy winemaking. They are made with a light hand and plenty of patience, designed to evolve in the glass and reward a little time.

Come along and discover one of Gippsland’s exciting new wine projects, meet Kaden and taste wines that capture a region that still feels wonderfully untapped.
