Naarm/Melbourne-based songwriter effe creates cloudy pop tracks, steeped in romantic longing. Her debut EP, Solder, is out this Friday, August 7, 2026 via Artist House. Today, she shares the second single, "Tears Always Burn," which ponders the connection between human emotion and bodies of water. Slow burn verses build to a soaring climax, which is dreamy, yet grounded.
On the track, Effe shares: "I’ve always loved that our tears are salty because we evolved from marine creatures, so in a way, we have a part of the ocean inside us all. And when you have one of those body shaking sobs, it can really feel like you are crying out the entire ocean. These two ideas shaped the concept of the song."
effe’s music lingers between sensuality and vulnerability. The ascendant Australian artist conjures bleary scores to bursts of emotion. Trip hop and downtempo grooves frame musings on breakups, girlhood, and connection. The outcome harkens 2000s radio pop, with a wisp of bedroom haze.
