Started by Syd Bradford in 2009 as a scrappy little virtual wine project in the Yarra Valley, Thick As Thieves has grown into a proper family-run operation built around great vineyard sites, minimal intervention and wines that don’t hang around long once opened.
Things really kicked into gear after Syd took over the Cypress Ridge vineyard in 2012 — home to 26-year-old pinot noir vines that now produce the flagship wines, alongside experimental releases like The Aloof Alpaca Arneis and other alternative varieties.
The approach is simple: good fruit, light touch in the winery, minimal additions and wines that feel bright, balanced and genuinely easy to drink. Nothing heavy-handed, nothing overthought.
